Recent KAARG empowerment forum encouraged employees to unlock their greatest potential

September 1, 2011 - Trudy Bourgeois, one of America’s leading experts on transformational leadership, inspired employees to become more successful in their careers during a recent empowerment forum hosted by our Kellogg African American Resource Group (KAARG).

Todd Penegor, President, U.S. Snacks., and executive sponsor for our Kellogg African American Resource Group kicked off the event that was also attended by several of our senior leaders, including Brad Davidson, President, Kellogg North America; Dennis Shuler, Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources; Kris Charles, Vice President, Global Communications and Philanthropy; Sammie Long, Vice President, Kellogg North America; and, Mark Wagner, President, U.S. Sales, among others.

The informational session – titled Unlocking Your Greatest Potential– focused on demystifying the networking process by helping employees understand the important link between relationships and career success.

Empowerment forums like this help Kellogg continue to build a workplace where every employee can contribute to their highest potential, as well as enable employees to become more successful in the workplace and with their career advancement.

Through humor, guided introspection and real-life examples, Trudy reinforced that effective networking requires planning, forging strong relationships and diligence.

“Trudy encouraged participants to ask more questions and make fewer statements; teach instead of tell; ask for feedback; learn to forgive; and, listen with an ear for new possibilities,” says Trina Lewis, Diversity & Inclusion Advisor for KAARG.

Employees and their managers were encouraged to attend the event together, as Trudy discussed the importance of meaningful and successful conversations in ensuring effective performance.

Trudy also encouraged employees to become more aware of the industry in which Kellogg participates by ensuring they were regularly reading about our industry news.

One way employees can learn more about our industry is by reading the Media Coverage section available on the Kellogg Today homepage. There employees can read a daily roundup of news coverage in the media regarding Kellogg, our competitors and the food industry.
