Beyond Diversity and Inclusion Training: Building Intercultural Competencies
How does an organization move from "talking" about diversity/inclusion to "living" it? It is all about leadership.
It starts with assessing the current ability of a leader to understand, embrace, appreciate and value cultural differences. To facilitate this understanding we draw on the power of the intercultural development inventory. The IDI measures how a person thinks about, and is likely to respond to, cultural difference.
The instrument is easy to complete, and it can generate a graphic profile of an individual or groups' predominant stage of development and a textual interpretation of that stage and associated transition issues. It is extremely helpful in moving individual managers/leaders along the diversity and inclusion continuum. This assessment provides a common language to address the specific areas of opportunity for growth in building an intercultural? There is something missing here.
- In this 2 day session, participants will be guided to use an experiential learning process and case studies to build self awareness and the skills needed to motivate managers and leaders to begin to practice the new behaviors that support their ability to create teams of inclusion. This will consistently connect diversity and inclusion to the company's bottom line.
After attending this session, participants will have an expanded capacity to manage and lead cross cultural teams. By building this intercultural leadership competency that leads to
- Reduction of cultural bias
- Higher awareness of dominate/subordinate group relationships
- Increased manager/leader effectiveness in building inclusive teams
- Improved intercultural communication leading to reduced intercultural conflicts
- Greater patience and support across cultures
- Enhanced capacity for self awareness regarding intercultural experience
Special Requirements to participate in this session: completion of the IDI on line inventory, a 45-60 minute confidential one on one feedback provided by a certified IDI administrator
